Episode 182: The 1 Million Gold Challenge (Part 1 of 7)

Hail friends,

"How do you put a town of thieves on the map?"

That's the question I find myself asking and that's the problem I intend to solve (and soon!). I had a few ideas up my sleeve so I head to the public bulletin boards and make a public posting of my own:

Public Posting by Chad Sexington:
Hear ye! Hear ye! Introducing the Barter Town One Million Gold Challenge!

Come one! Come all!

Please meet at the Barter Town Stables 10 minutes prior to the event (within guard zone). In the event, all of Barter Town will be made public -- including the houses. Inside the houses will be all kinds of containers. Inside some containers are books with clues. Inside one container in particular is a one million gold check!

This event will run either 30 minutes or 1 hour, depending on the turn out. More details to come.

(Oh yes, there will be blood.)

The gift that keeps on giving made a lasting impression on me. A week before, I purchased a pair of Tinkering Alacrity scrolls. Now it was time to put my obsession to the test.

Jose was lurking about.

(My lucky day.)

I carry with me my brand new, very innocent looking crate.

BOOM!!!

I set my plan in motion and let the others in on the details. But for this to work, I'd need to let some of the others off the THIEF Recruitment Guild Stone pre-maturely and move them forward to better and brighter things.

(A shard-wide deception only works if you're all on equal footing.)

(It also helps with squealling.)

A day to celebrate for sure!

And for his first task I ask him to test something that I've obviously haven't tested yet and something I wouldn't do just to intentionally cause harm for no apparent reason (except for giggles).

*innocent face*

BOOM!!!

With the testing (and re-testing) now complete, it was time to ramp things up for the next step. The gauntlet was thrown on the public boards and time was of the essence. More preparation for a glorious day of victory was still needed. And from the looks of things (and the dead bodies) we were up to the challenge.

It's always been about misdirection and deception. I see no reason why this should be any different.

The challenge wasn't for the rest of the world (a.k.a. non-believers). The challenge was for us.

(They just didn't know it yet.)
