General Information
The five poison types are from Ultima Online. And like in Ultima Online, you only have access to four of them (but you'll
still encounter the fifth type from monsters and traps). That's where the similarities begin to drift apart. As the poison
level increases, the stats poison effects decreases by a greater percentage, the number of turns the poison lasts increases,
and the poison becomes harder and harder to cure. (But the damage taken every turn remains the same.)
Applying Poison
This is the basic way to gain Poisoning and will be the first way you'll be introduced to the skill. To apply poison go to
your menu and select the Poison Potion from your item inventory. There are three items you can apply the poison to:
- Shurikens
- Krysses
- Fishsteaks
Applying the poison to any of these three items will give you a Poisoning check. Shurikens must either be found in a
treasure chest or crafted by a very talented smith. Krysses of any ingot type may also have any type of poison applied to it.
And while Shurikens and Krysses can be very useful in battle, fishsteaks' sole purpose in the game are to generate an
unlimited number of poisoning targets.
Poisonous Shuriken
Each shuriken potentially gives you two chances to gain. Once when you first apply the poison and again when you throw
the poisonous shuriken in battle. A single shuriken is thrown against all enemies. A poisonous shuriken both deals the
same amount of damage a normal shuriken would deal and will have a chance to deal the poison that is applied to it.
Poisonous Kryss
In UO you have a chance to gain Poisoning every time you attempt an Infectious Strike. I couldn't get this to work properly
for every swing. Instead, a Poisoning gain is checked every time you take a poisonous kryss into battle. Remember, krysses
can only be gotten through the Blacksmithy skill. The best kryss in the game is a Valorite Kryss with Deadly Poison applied
to it.
Sleeping Powder
Each pinch of poisonous powder that you throw in the face of your enemies in battle will give you a Poisoning skill gain
check.
Rabid Bite
Use of the Cannibalism skill Rabid Bite gives both Cannibalism & Poisoning skill gain checks. This is in addition to
its normal attack properties.
