General Information
The Gambling skill is no where to be found in the world of Ultima Online. It's taken from the luck property on items and uses Dice which are also found in the game. Gambling is gained every time you use Tarot Cards & Dice during battle. For every 100 points of Gambling, the more the odds will be stacked in your favor when you draw a card or roll a die. Before you can raise this skill, you'll have to find the Tarot Cards and Dice within the game. (There will be a few chances to get them early on. Late in the game, you'll be able to purchase them from a vendor if you missed them all entirely.)
Terot CardsOnce you find a set of Tarot cards, you'll have access to them in your skill menu during battle. There are 10 different cards with 10 different effects. You will not have to collect the individual cards to use them. You'll have access to all 10 cards once you find a deck. Most of them are good but some of them are very, very bad. Use them at your own risk. Be wary of them, but don't be afraid of them. They can change the fate of the battle. As your Luck increases, the odds of both Death & The Hanged Man decrease.
Dice
Like the Tarot Cards, you'll have to find the Dice in the game before you get a chance to use them in battle. Dice are much safer than the Tarot Cards. There are no negative effects, but the rewards and how the outcome can swing the game (compared to the Terot Cards) are greatly reduced. Dice are mostly a means of dealing typeless damage to your enemies, but they do have some perks. You throw two dice at a time. Here are some guidelines that govern their effect:For every 200 points of Luck, the odds of rolling a Snake Eyes increases.
- The higher the total of both dice, the higher the damage dealt.
- Doubles have a chance to deal Mute Status to the enemy.
- 7's & 11's have a chance to deal Clumsy Status to the enemy.
- Snake Eyes has a chance to kill the enemy.
