General Information

Through Fishing, you get access to 81 different pieces of armor and 60 different weapons (not to mention the 4 wands) that are all unique to fishing and that you can't get any other way. Fishing works a little differently than it does in Ultima Online. You still have to be near water to cast your fishing line. You still get to fish up Sea Serpents and collect Fishing Nets. And you're goal is still to find Treasure Chests. But I've done away with the S.O.S.'s and MiBs from UO.


Step-by-Step

• The first thing you need to do is have TheOneEyedJack in your party with a Fishing Pole equip. You can buy Fishing poles off NPCs or craft them yourself with Special SixtyNyn. They will break so buy / craft a few at a time.
• When you find a Bottomless Pond, stand at the middle, face downward, and cast your line. First your Fishing skill will be checked to see if you catch anything at all. At zero skill, you have a 50% success chance. At 1000 skill, you have a 100% success chance. And inbetween, you get 0.05% chance for every single 1 point of Fishing.
• Fishing skill gains are checked every time you cast your line of your Fishing Pole or throw a Fishing Net.
• If you pass that check, then you can fish up a number of items:

• Cast your net into the Bottomless Pond. You'll find yourself fighting a mix of Water Elementals, Sea Serpents, and Deep Sea Serpents. (Different Ponds have different mixtures of creatures.)
• Sea Serpents and Deep Sea Serpents each have a 50% chance to drop a chest.
• Once you get the chest, you'll always find either 100, 200, or 300 gold pieces inside. The rest of the loot is completely random:

Please Note

• When Fishing, you only fish up a single item. When you open a chest, each item is checked and rolled against individually.
• It is statistically possible (but unlikely) to get every single item on that list in a single chest.
• The worst chest you can get is one with only 100 gold pieces.
• A weapon with Vanquishing is strictly better than the same in Ruin, Might, Force, or Power.
• A weapon with Evil is strictly better than the same with Clumsiness, Feeblemind, or Weakness.
• The best weapons are:
  • Accurate Silver Mace/Cutlass of Vanquishing
  • Accurate Silver Mace/Cutlass of Ghoul's Touch
  • Accurate Silver Mace/Cutlass of Evil
• Even though some weapons are a little worse than others, the very best are extremely hard to get.
• In fact, any of these weapons are better than most of your gear when you first get access to Fishing.
• Hit Clumsy, Feeblemind, Weakness, Paralyze, and Curse and unique to these weapons (and unique to Fishing).
• A piece of armor with Invulnerability is strictly better than one with Defense, Guarding, Hardening, or Fortification.
• A Tricorn Hat with Bless is strictly better than one with Agility, Cunning, or Strength.
• BUT! A Tricorn with any of those is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, permanet status effect that gives +100% of AGI, INT, and STR are unique to these items and are very powerful by themselves and can be worn by any character!
• A Blessed Tricorn Hat is one of the best helmets in the game. Don't let the low PDEF & MDEF fool you. Bless status effect gives +100% to AGI, INT, and STR. And being that it's a armor mod from the Tricorn, this time it's permanent. (Good luck trying to get 6 of them. You'll be Fishing for a while.)
• Once you get one Fishing Net and once you open a Treasure Chest, you then have a 50% chance of finding another Fishing Net inside. It's very possible to start casting 4-5 nets in a row and opening 4-5 Treasure Chests in a row.
• Once you fail to get a Fishing Net inside a chest or fail to pull a Treasure Chest from a Sea Serpent, you'll have to grind it out and fish up another net to start it all over again. (Although you do have a 10% chance of getting a net. it shouldn't take too long.)
• One last thing to notice: Unlike other skills, all of this is available to you once you begin Fishing. Your skill in Fishing does not affect the items you get or the chance of getting them. The Fishing skill only changes the initial chance to successfully fish up anything. Starting at 50% and going no where but up, the Fishing skill is ready to use from the minute you start. And you'll start with access to some of the best and most unique items in the game.
