It is a good night to be a thief. Shalimar has been in contact with me about a new recruit itching to join a good thief guild. We played tag on ICQ for a few days but tonight was the night I finally met up with Onjo Drak. Onjo seems like a good guy, and from what I heard about him in NEW he will be a fun addition to our squad.
It was also at that time that another hopeful candidate whom I recognized from the forums logged in with the same interests. I had the pleasure of meeting Janus Kerykeion, a charmingly ambitious chap personally favored by the god Hermes. We had plenty of time for some small talk as we hung out in the Buccaneer’s Den waiting for Onjo.Not many people desire to live the life of the thief. It is not often that we have eager applicants and to have two on the same night should tip off most thieves’ 6th sense for caution. This is why our guildmaster has created the two-pronged test for malicious infiltrators! I shuffled the fresh meat into my towers to give them the skinny:
These initiates performed flawlessly on this ever-essential test. Since all applicants were not familiar with the thief code I listed it in its entirety. Putting special emphasis on the lesser known rules:
I also thought they were both in a position to learn about one of the lesser-known traditions of thieves. As glamorous as we make the profession sound, there is no mistaking the number of hours you will spend standing next to a sweaty beast of burden if you plan to become a legendary pickpocket. Once the animal is of no value to you it is massacred, cut into bite sized pieces, and enshrined. I carry this tradition on as I learned it, from my previous mentor Rico:
With all of the formalities finished we were able to pass a bottle around and commemorate our new friendship. Onjo had a bit too much to drink and even ate the worm! But this is the only way to start a night on the town:

Holy crap I have a fish on the line! Janus and I exchanged a wry smile as I signaled to the fire red box sitting nearby (which positively reeks of sulfurous ash.) It was time to end our night on the town with a little bit of fireworks:
