Launch
UO Thief officially launched on September 1, 2006. When it launched only four "projects" were featured on the site:
The Mis-adventures of Chad Sexington, Undeniably Sexy: A Thief's Tale (my ultima online RPG maker fan game), The Magic
Arts (& Crafts) (my brother's RP online novel), and No Pots, No Specials (my short lived hand drawn comic strip). There
have been a lot of changes since that time.
The mis-adventures was always meant to be the main project, in fact, it's the reason the site was created in the first
place. I founded THIEF on Napa Valley in January 2006. It's in these early days when I wrote the first 22 episodes.
During these days I sported a very different (and expensive) outfit. It's also the outfit the logo for the mis-adventures
and the site is based off of (hand drawn, scanned, then colored with photoshop by me). I honestly didn't expect the
popularity of the mis-adventures to catch on so quick. These first 22 were originally posted on the free forums that I
still use today and by the 3rd episode it seemed like everyone on Napa was already reading and everyone knew my name.
By the the time the 13th episode was posted I was already being interviewed by Stratics for the first time.
I took and break and when I came back I knew I wanted to continue writing, but the free forums wouldn't do. I never
made a website before, but I needed one now. This is the reason why this site is designed as it is. To this day I only
know the minimum amount of html to display very basic pages and links. In September, the site was up and running.
Side-Project Early Days
The Non-Chad Episodes has quickly become almost as valuable to me as the mis-adventures themselves. I still feel a little
obnoxious when I read the title, but it's appropriately named. Between the mis-adventures and the non-chad episodes,
anybody can find every episode that will ever be posted on this site.
The majority of traffic that comes to UO Thief is strictly interested in reading the episodes and the episodes only -- but
you wouldn't have guessed it if you calculated the number of man hours I've put into Undeniably Sexy: A Thief's Tale.
I've put more hours into creating this game than I've put into the mis-adventures, the website, and every other project
combined. It's not even close. (Why didn't someone tell me that making a game would be so hard?) I've received and
overwhelming amount of positive reviews about the game by the few who've played it. Undeniably Sexy is loosely based off
of the mis-adventures and uses familiar people, locations, and ideas from the episodes and from UO in general. The
mis-adventures themselves is my own brand of non-fiction pictures, situations, and steals from UO mixed with my own brand
of storytelling. Because of this, the game is even more loosely based on the actual Ultima Online. But it's through
Undeniably Sexy that you get the connection to every other project on UO Thief.
You may not realize this by looking at the other projects, but the original idea was to create a whole network of projects
based around a single fiction (and sexy) world. Undeniably Sexy, The Magic Arts, The Memoirs of Ninja Bob, and No Pots,
No Specials all have different tones and styles, but they're all taking place in the same fictional universe. They all
share characters, they all track specific artifacts, and they all share major world wide events. That was the idea anyway.
I think many people come to UO Thief and wonder why The Magic Arts, which is strictly RP and has nothing to do with
thievery, is doing on a site called "UO Thief." I'm still not sure how successful the "fictional universe" idea was, but
that was the reasoning for it all. These days the majority of the side-projects have evaporated from the site.
Undeniably Sexy is the only one I continue to work on to this day.
UO Thief Today
These days, the focus UO Thief has shifted solely towards UO thievery. This site is now exclusively a place where
thieves can find general information about thievery and where they can share their own thievery exploits.
As of May 19, 2011 UO Thief is host to 600+ episodes by 75+ thieves across 10 different shards. UO Thief has attracted
250,000+ page views per year, over the past 5 1/2 years.
